Intimate Apparel tells the story of Esther Mills, an African American seamstress who sews intimate apparel for women both uptown and downtown. One day she receives a letter from a Barbadian immigrant working on the Panama canal and Esther begins to wonder if she hasn't found someone to finally share her life with. Set in New York, 1905, this story seeks to tell the lost history of ordinary African American women.
